Nendoroid #1540 – Aqua – Winter Version – Kono Suba Review

I’m still hoping to get more reviews out, but I am really waiting for figures I want to be made…however, thanks to WONDERFUL HOBBY LIFE FOR YOU!! 32, I was able to get 2 new items in right away! This is the second of the two.

From the “Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku o! / Kono Suba” anime, this is Nendoroid Aqua (Winter Version):

Each photograph can be clicked on to give a life-size view of the picture, even if the trope itself does n’t display .

here ‘s her in the box :

As #1540 in the Nendoroid figure series, this version of Aqua is the latest in the ever-growing and increasingly popular Nendoroid figure series! There are a total of 7 Nendoroids out so far for Kono Suba (including this one) that I have reviewed. If you want to see them, links are in the spoiler tag:

Like all Nendoroids, Aqua comes in the new much smaller-sized standardized box. She’s got most of her parts displayed in the window as well as the figure itself. It also has all of the normal information on it, like the series logo (in the top left corner), Good Smile Company (GSC)’s logo (top right corner), and of course the figure’s name, number and image on the bottom.

This figure was released first at “WONDERFUL HOBBY LIFE FOR YOU!! 32” online through the GSC shop, but later will have a pre-order period open up for those who missed the initial release.

spinal column of the box :

As most of you probably already know, Aqua is one of the main heroines/girls in the anime, “Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku o!”; which is often abbreviated as “Kono Suba”. However this is an alternate look for her, based on her winter outfit from the ‘winter shogun’ story arc rather than the normal one she usually wears in the show.

Just like the front of the box, the back has all of the usual information, logos and images that have become standard to Nendoroid figures recently. The background for Aqua’s box is blue with light blue and pink circles around the images; perfect to compliment and contrast against her color scheme (hair and clothes).

She comes with a decent number of parts; so most of her poses and accessories are shown here on the back of the box (or on the sides).

Instructions :

Unlike Figma Aqua Swimsuit Version’s instructions, Nendoroid Aqua’s are really long! There are a lot of parts and directions, including the standard how to change the face parts directions and how to brace the figure on the stand directions.

Keeping up the standard (as it is now) of Figma and Nendoroid figures; Aqua’s instructions are in both English and Japanese. The English is on one side, and the Japanese is on the other. It is the same on both sides, otherwise.

There are a few special parts with Aqua that are featured in the instructions, which are her hat, ponytail, net and glass jar (among others).

Parts :

Aqua comes with a good number of parts; both for her body and accessories. Here’s the list:

— Instructions

Out of the box :

Aqua comes ready to go out of the box once her protective plastic pieces have been taken off. She comes with a happy expression in place as well as extended arms. Of course with this version of her, she is wearing her winter uniform, as mentioned before.

As with all Nendoroids; the arms, hands, and legs are interchangeable and very easy to swap out with other arms, hands and legs. The same holds true for the face and the base as well.

Crying formula :

Aqua has two alternate faces with this release, one of which is a crying expression. The sad, remorseful expression works well for her when she’s trying to apologize to either Kazuma or the Winter Shogun. Also she doesn’t really have hands for open palm begging…so the hands that hold the net work well for this pose.

Aqua also comes with an alternate leg. This is a bent leg, and is supposed to be used for her right leg. However, since the legs on Nendoroids look very similar, it can be swapped for the left leg without looking too odd.

With internet and hat :

Aqua comes without either her hat or ponytail attached out of the package, so they have to be swapped out in order to complete her look. They can’t be used at the same time; it’s one or the other.

Her hat is kind of unique in that it really fits on her head in almost any way…it can be put on her head without really knowing which way is front and which way is back. However, on the inside, there is some barely noticeable sculpted-in detail to show the front of the hair bangs; so that is actually the way it’s supposed to go on. But, as I said, it fits snuggly without really having to exactly line it up on her head.

Aqua also comes with another accessory: A net! This is really nicely sculpted and made from a semi-translucent plastic for the netting. Aqua comes with 2 hands that can hold it (left and right), so she can hold it in either hand, or both hands at the same time:

Snow Sprites/Happy expression :

Of course the net has to be used for something…in this case Snow Sprites. As seen in the anime, these little guys float around and are caught with a net. Aqua comes with 2 of them, which are propped onto small stand adapters that can plug anywhere into the Nendoroid base.

The only issue with them is that they are basically balls with a hole in them, so they can be really hard to get out of the package initially and can be somewhat difficult to line up onto the pegs as well.

Also Aqua’s final expression is her happy face, with her eyes closed and mouth open.

With jar of Snow Sprites :

After catching all of the Snow Sprites, Aqua puts them into a glass bottle/jar! This piece comes with a small hole on the bottom of the bottle/jar, which requires a special hand with a peg on the palm to hold. This hand is only for her right hand; there is no left hand for it.

The bottle/jar does have a front side, shown by the eyes of the Snow Sprites within the bottle/jar itself.

Alternate body :

There is a whole alternate body for Aqua, complete with arms, legs and torso! It even comes with an alternate neck piece already plugged into it as well.

This alternate body is for sitting down/kneeling. However this body does not have a hole in the back for the Nendoroid stand/base to plug into it…so it has to be balanced in the sitting position. It’s not hard to do, but it is fairly unstable and can fall over fairly easily if you’re not careful posing it.

Also the arms and legs do come off of this body, so they can be swapped with the other arms and legs included with the figure as well.

Since there is a kneeling pose for this as well, she has to be placed face-down on a flat surface (or the Nendoroid base) for this pose to work. It doesn’t have any balance issues though, like the sitting position.

Also it is worth mentioning that GSC got this figure right again: Like the normal Nendoroid version of Aqua, this version does not have any panties in either torso/body included with this figure! The legs do make it look like this torso does have a butt, but it’s more like the continuation of her legs up to her cheeks more-so than the actual buttocks themselves.

Compared to convention version Aqua :

Since this is the 2nd version of Aqua, it is only fair to compare her to the first version of her with the normal show clothes.

The two versions are similar, but there are some differences (outside of the obvious clothes). There is no special GSC base for this release (it did not have a GSC bonus at all). Also their normal faces are very similar, but they are in fact different (different eye colors and shapes).

With Nendoroid Megumin, normal clothes :

Aqua is the only figure so far to get their Winter clothes shown as a Nendoroid release, so she can only be compared to the existing Nendoroid Kono Suba figures instead of other Winter clothes ones.

With Nendoroid Megumin, school clothes :

Since that’s the case, interaction between these figures doesn’t really make sense in the context of the anime, but it’s still worth showing off.

With Nendoroid Darkness :

She does work remarkably well with Nendoroid Darkness, as both of them have similar accessorries (Aqua with the Snow Sprites, and Darkness with the Flying Cabbage).

With Kazuma :

She is always going to be troubled by Kazuma (and causing trouble for Kazuma), regardless of what she’s wearing.

With Yunyun :

And lastly, she can be shown together with Yunyun as well.

As a fixed :

With this release, there are now a total of 7 Nendoroid figures for the Kono Suba series. Strangely only Yunyun has gotten a release for a side-character…I can only hope that Wiz will get a release at some point.

And lastly is the entire set of Nendoroids and Figmas for the Kono Suba series, as it stands currently. This includes:

overall :

Just like all Nendoroids, this version of Aqua is another really a great example of the kind of quality, detail and complexity expected from Good Smile Company with their Nendoroid figures. Very cute and accurate to the anime, she’s really nice! Great accessories and posing options; she is quite fun!

There aren’t any negative aspects to this figure. A bonus GSC base would have been nice, but it just didn’t happen this time. It wasn’t really needed (unlike the Figma Swimsuit Aqua figure).

Overall this is a really great figure! Well worth picking up.

Recommended for everyone. Lots of play value and display value with a bunch of options.

It ‘s not hard to do, but it is reasonably precarious and can fall over reasonably well if you ‘re not careful posing it.Also the arms and legs do come off of this body, so they can be swapped with the early arms and legs included with the design as well.Since there is a kneeling affectation for this angstrom well, she has to be placed face-down on a categoric coat ( or the Nendoroid base ) for this put to work. It does n’t have any balance wheel issues though, like the sitting position. Also it is worth mentioning that GSC got this figure correctly again : Like the normal Nendoroid interpretation of Aqua, this translation does not have any panties in either torso/body included with this calculate ! The legs do make it look like this torso does have a butt, but it ‘s more like the continuance of her legs astir to her cheeks more-so than the actual buttocks themselves.Since this is the second version of Aqua, it is alone average to compare her to the first adaptation of her with the normal express clothes. The two versions are alike, but there are some differences ( outside of the obvious clothes ). There is no extra GSC base for this dismissal ( it did not have a GSC bonus at all ). besides their normal faces are very similar, but they are in fact different ( different center colors and shapes ) .Aqua is the merely human body indeed far to get their winter clothes shown as a Nendoroid free, so she can only be compared to the existing Nendoroid Kono Suba figures alternatively of other Winter clothes ones.Since that ‘s the case, interaction between these figures does n’t very make sense in the context of the anime, but it ‘s still worth showing off.She does work unusually well with Nendoroid Darkness, as both of them have exchangeable accessorries ( Aqua with the Snow Sprites, and Darkness with the Flying Cabbage ) .She is always going to be troubled by Kazuma ( and causing trouble for Kazuma ), regardless of what she ‘s wearing. And last, she can be shown together with Yunyun as well. With this release, there are nowadays a total of 7 Nendoroid figures for the Kono Suba series.
