Quote1.png  But my darling … You can not be ashamed of it ! The desire to destroy ! It is so human ! deadliness is in your soul, chérie. You know this to be true. Le violence ! On the battlefield, and in the sleep together ! It is your nature ! Quote2.png

Fantomex, or Weapon XIII, was a result of the Weapon Plus Program ‘s experiment with technological-human hybrids. [ 6 ] He was born and was artificially “ evolved ” in The World, a man-made environment designed to create Super-Soldiers using Sentinel engineering. [ 6 ] [ 17 ] Though his true identity remained strange, he had on at least one affair gone by the name “ Jean-Phillipe, ” [ 4 ] and his experiment appointment at The World facility was “ Charlie Cluster-7. ” [ 1 ] In terms of nationality, it was first gear assumed that Fantomex was french due to his heavy french stress and villa apparently near Paris. [ 4 ] however, he explained that he was not french ( far adding to his cryptic lineage ), but preferably spoke with a french stress because he found that it annoyed and distracted others when speaking to him, [ 1 ] [ 18 ] and besides because he liked that emphasis. [ 11 ]

Fantomex sought a safe seaport at the X-Corporation in Paris while fleeing from authorities. He claimed to be a mutant thief with the ill-defined power of misdirection and Superhuman intellect later on. [ 3 ] Bleeding abundantly from fastball wounds, he asked for refuge, which Professor X granted him. Fantomex explained to Professor X and Jean Grey that he was being hunted because he was one of the most want thieves in Europe. Neither Professor X nor Jean Grey was able to use their telepathy to verify his claims due to his ceramic mask, a device that blocked their genial probes. [ 4 ] however, they agreed to aid him, and after escaping the soldiers who surrounded the construct, Fantomex used E.V.A. to take Professor X and Jean Grey to his “ family ” in France. [ 4 ] While there, he introduced them to his “ mother ” and continued to describe his success as a thief. In fact, he told the two that he had stolen medium data about the Weapon Plus project while in the Chunnel, and offered to sell it to Professor Xavier for one billion dollars. After submitting his marriage proposal, he put himself in a light hypnotic capture and removed the bullets that riddled his body. Finished, he asked Professor X and Jean Grey to accompany him back to the Chunnel in an effort to destroy Weapon XII. The three left in E.V.A., leaving the house and aged woman behind. [ 4 ] however, both the house and the woman turned out to be a highly elaborate ruse designed by Fantomex to hide his dependable origin. [ 6 ] Fantomex then led Professor Xavier and Jean Grey to the Chunnel catastrophe. Packed fully of people and animals that Weapon XII had turned into asinine slaves, confusion ran rampant. Knowing that those who had fallen prey to Weapon XII ‘s charm were lost, Fantomex killed Darkstar and any others who were mentally connected to the creature. After Fantomex destroyed Weapon XII by using a distant detonator, it was noticed that there were two empty Weapon Plus transport tubes in the Chunnel : one that had held the violent Weapon XII and another that held something called Weapon XIII. [ 6 ] After the battle, Fantomex ‘s ceramic mask slipped a bit and Jean Grey used her telepathy to deduce his true identity : Fantomex was actually Weapon XIII and had besides been in transit in the Chunnel. It was during the accident in the Chunnel that he had escaped and was subsequently chased to the X-Corporation build. He confessed to Jean Grey that he was not the master thief that he had claimed, but was immediately set out to earn that reputation. He assured Jean Grey that he refused to be anyone ‘s soldier, and as a resultant role Jean Grey allowed Fantomex to disappear into the Chunnel before the authorities arrived. [ 6 ]

Fantomex subsequently traveled to Afghanistan in an attempt to steal a list of the Earth ‘s richest mutant slaver traders, the names on which he intended to blackmail. There he encountered an unconscious mutant known as Dust, a former mutant captive who had unwittingly killed her captors by turning into a deadly dust storm. Upon his exit, he encountered Wolverine, leaving Dust in his care. [ 19 ]

assault on Weapon Plus

soon after, Fantomex contacted Wolverine and offered him information about his cryptic by if he helped Fantomex destroy Ultimaton, besides known as Weapon XV, a baneful intersection of the Weapon Plus broadcast. Fantomex, Wolverine, and the X-Men ‘s Cyclops traveled to The World, an artificial, time-altering environment designed by the Weapon Plus course of study to promptly develop and evolve new generations of super-soldiers. [ 17 ] The team was defeated by Ultimaton, who escaped by breaking through the barriers of The World and flying to the Weapon Plus space station. [ 1 ] The team pursued their aim in E.V.A., Fantomex ‘s biological spacecraft, and upon arriving at the outer space station Fantomex kept his son by showing Wolverine the arrant Weapon Plus database. Shocked at learning the atrocious details of his past ( including his butcher of the integral population of Roanoke while under the influence of the Weapon Plus Program ), Wolverine initiated the self-destruct succession for the space station before catching and ultimately killing Ultimaton, who was besides wondering about his condition. [ 20 ] Fantomex and Cyclops escaped the explosion in one of the post ‘s shuttles. [ 21 ]

Planet ten

Returning to Earth to find the X-Men scatter and Manhattan under siege by a mutant impersonating their arch-foe Magneto, Cyclops recruited Fantomex, E.V.A., and a group of Xavier Institute students into an ad-hoc X-Men team to oppose the villain. Fantomex led the attack, cutting a path through the faux-Magneto ’ randomness Brotherhood and liberating Xavier, precipitating the villain ’ second precipitation. [ 22 ]

War of the Programs

Resuming his campaign against Weapon Plus, Fantomex found the grave of the Program ‘s director, John Sublime, but found it empty, except for a err of paper bearing the parole “ Roanoke. ” He located the clandestine facility of the splinter program Weapon X and found it abandoned except for Weapon X ’ second Agent Zero. After a brief hassle with no pass winner, the pair reluctantly joined forces and traveled to the locate of Roanoke, a town whose inhabitants were slaughtered after Weapon X unleashed a brainwashed Wolverine on them years early. There, they encountered Sublime but were opposed by his U-Men and forced to flee against overwhelming odds. Believed to still be under the Program ’ s master, Fantomex was left for dead .

late, Fantomex was contacted by the bantam mutant Shortpack who sought his help in assassinating mutant arms principal Steinbeck in revenge for his stamp out of an agent under Shortpack ’ south care. [ 23 ] Fantomex refused, not wanting to become responsible for allowing the good-natured Shortpack to become a cause of death. Shortpack was captured by Steinbeck soon after, and whilst investigating his disappearance the shape changing mutant Mystique, who was working for both Xavier and Steinbeck ‘s ally Shepard, learned of his meeting with Fantomex. Though despising him after a by run into in Madagascar, Mystique found Fantomex in Monte Carlo, once again operating under the pretension he was a mutant thief, and learned of Shortpack ’ s plan. As she left to rescue him, Fantomex followed and uncovered her captive to assassinate Xavier. In change for his silence, Fantomex bade Mystique perform a burglarize for him. After she returned with the goods, Mystique infected both Fantomex and E.V.A. with a techno-organic virus, apparently killing them both to keep her design mystery. however, it was all a ruse as Mystique knew she was being monitored by Shepard. Fantomex late resurfaced and helped Mystique capture Shepard, giving her access to Steinbeck whom she defeated .

Dark Reign

Fantomex following appeared defending The World from Norman Osborn ‘s zombi hordes. After Wolverine and the zombi soldiers were infected by Allgod. As atheists, Fantomex and Noh-Varr were immune to the World ‘s latest weapon. Fighting off the zombies and a mind controlled Wolverine, Noh-Varr manages to placate the World, releasing michigander from the Allgod ‘s influence. The trio then proceed to defeat Norman Osborne ‘s zombies. Fantomex used a shrink-ray steal from Doctor Doom to keep an eye on the World. [ 24 ]

nation X and Second Coming

following encountering the X-Men after being hired by a young mutant boy to kill a Predator X, Fantomex was all-important in helping to subdue Lobe ‘s team until they released a mutant-specific influenza HX-N1, forcing the X-Men to flee. Fantomex was subsequently seen wooing Psylocke. [ 25 ] once part of the X-Men, he helped Emma Frost and Kitty Pryde get rid of Sebastian Shaw, but he released him from the copulate, thinking to kill him but alternatively powering his energizing preoccupation baron, which led Shaw to conflict the three X-Men for a short but acute confrontation. [ 26 ] He was late seen fighting the Nimrod sentinel units sent from the future by Bastion to attack the mutants of Utopia.

preternatural X-Force

He then joined X-Force. [ 27 ] He went with the team on a mission to kill a clone of the original Apocalypse. The team were shocked to find that the clone was a child. The respite of the team argued, but not bring themselves to kill the boy. Fantomex, believing the child was beyond save, took matters into his own hands and killed him. [ 28 ] late, an army of Deathloks attacked Fantomex, killed his mother, and stole the miniaturize World, wherein Fantomex was working on an experiment he believed would save the universe. It was former discovered that this was another ringer of Apocalypse created by Fantomex, named Genesis being grown in his lab in The World. [ 29 ] due to killing Apocalypse, X-Force member Archangel began to turn into the new Apocalypse because of the Succession Protocol put in identify to assure that upon Apocalypse ‘s death, one of his Horsemen of Death would succeed him. X-Force traveled to the Age of Apocalypse, an alternate universe where they hoped to find a celestial Life Seed which they could use to reverse the summons Archangel was undergoing. [ 30 ] together with the X-Men of that worldly concern they managed to secure a Life Seed despite heavy losses for the X-Men. They returned to their own world entirely to find that they had been tricked by Archangel who had already completed his transformation and wanted the Life Seed in arrange to re-make The World. Fantomex and X-Force attempted to fight him and his Horsemen but were forced to flee, leaving behind Psylocke who hush believed Archangel could be redeemed. [ 31 ] With Wolverine seriously injured Fantomex was forced to lead what remained of X-Force in order to stop Archangel and retrieve The World which he had stolen. During the final conflict to stop Archangel, Fantomex appeared to flee but in fact went to bring the AoA X-Men as back-up. Fantomex was besides forced to release his secret weapon, the clone of Apocalypse, who managed to buy them enough prison term to defeat Archangel. [ 32 ] Fantomex was then kidnapped by Captain Britain and taken to Otherworld to stand test for his mangle of the child Apocalypse. After Otherworld was attacked and Fantomex helped in its defense mechanism, however, he was allowed to go free. [ 33 ]

final examination performance

As X-Force came confront to expression with the newly Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Fantomex was poisoned by Mystique with a poison that completely blocked his powers. Psylocke was heed controlled by Shadow King forcing Fantomex to intervene. He removed his mask which contained his mind shields and gave it to Psylocke, breaking Shadow King ‘s operate over her. This, however, left him vulnerable and after good managing to send Psylocke away with E.V.A., he was killed by the Brotherhood. [ 34 ] E.V.A. and the lie of X-Force managed to recover his body and E.V.A. deposited it in a cloning sample distribution hatch in the White Sky Facility, the Cloud. All three of his brains were integral, and the machine made a mistake and cloned a new body for each of his brains. Fantomex reunited with Psylocke and took her and his new “ sister ” to meet his beget. [ 12 ]

After X-Force

Fantomex, Cluster, and Psylocke worked as thieves in Paris, six months after their reconstitution, Cluster learning the job from Fantomex. During this prison term a love triangle emerged between Fantomex, Psylocke, and Cluster, until Weapon XIII kidnapped Fantomex. While trying to rescue Fantomex, Weapon XIII professed his sexual love for Psylocke, this spark advance to all three of them agreeing to become one again. [ 35 ] Fantomex was flush offered a blemish by Wolverine in the Jean Grey School, which he turned down. [ 36 ]

Cable ‘s X-Force

Fantomex and E.V.A. joined Cable ‘s modern X-Force team and went on several missions with them in the hopes he ‘d be reunited with his silent as of yet dissociated parts of himself. [ 37 ] After a time, he lento went insane and plotted against the team deficient to be the best there is. [ 38 ] Eventually turning on them he besides revealed that team extremity MeMe was in truth Hope using her powers to impersonate the actual one. [ 39 ] Using her to copy the progressive Volga Effect onto himself in digital imprint in decree to complete his blemished being entirely to find it useless, until Domino shot him in the forefront did the serum take broad effect giving him entire control over it bestowing upon himself a wide range of new abilities. [ 40 ] For a time, Fantomex would travel across the ball deposing every outgrowth of super spy agency, extremely people coalitions, ace anything that stood in his path to being the best which unbeknownst to him was a cagey ploy by Nathan himself to demolish any threats to the mutant state agenda. [ 41 ] Hope Summers finally copied his god-like powers and rather of fighting him directly, she implanted a think into his mind : that in decree to be perfect you need inadequacies and personal faults. Fantomex could n’t comprehend being perfective through imperfection so he had a genial break down, having E.V.A purge himself of all flaws afflicting him along with his godhead attributes. Psylocke then used her psychic blades to scramble his brains apparently clipping his connection to his core mutant power, wherein the rest of X-Force proceeded to paste the nowadays depowered perfectionist. [ 42 ]

Astonishing X-Men

Both Fantomex and E.V.A. were restored to normalcy by Magneto, [ 43 ] who subsequently had Jean-Phillipe work for him through the Hellfire Club, investigating the activities of a louche company called Someday Enterprises in concert with Mystique. [ 44 ] After discovering that Someday used biotechnology stolen from The World in their experiments with mutants, Fantomex entered its system to ensure it was no longer compromised. Upon finding Someday ‘s access point into The World and destroying it, Fantomex took advantage of the null left by it to establish the seeded player of his very own own awareness in The World ‘s network. [ 45 ] Upon returning to the real number global, Fantomex became partners with Gambit until being paid the money LeBeau owed him. When Gambit was psychically called by Psylocke to London for help, Fantomex accompanied him. After helping complimentary Psylocke from the influence of the Shadow King, some of the mutants summoned by Psylocke ventured into the Astral Plane to defeat the villain. Fantomex volunteered, on the grounds that he needed to ensure Gambit ‘s base hit only indeed he could pay his debt. [ 46 ] The team finally split up in once they reached the Astral Plane, and Fantomex ended up with Mystique. Mystique took advantage of the properties of the Astral Plane to conjure up Madripoor and basically enjoy a vacation while they waited for the Shadow King to come from them. Fantomex and Mystique enjoyed numerous activities together, finally sharing a kiss before being teleported elsewhere in the Astral Plane by the person of the late Professor X to help him fight the Shadow King. [ 47 ] Near the end of the conflict, Fantomex agreed to donate his body to Professor X ‘s stellar class then that he could return to the real world while his beware remained in the Astral Plane. Fantomex hoped his sacrifice would earn him a clean slate and break his bicycle of constantly returning to his condition quo of a thief, a role he felt he was chained to. [ 48 ] Some time before his passing and the loanword of materiality to X, Charlie had investigated Weapon Plus. In the event of his demise, Fantomex left a recorded memoir of himself detailing his trail and leads on uncovering the clandestine super-soldier sanction within his neurological biome spouse E.V.A. whom would later seek out and find other Weapon program initiates to continue his pursuit should her collaborator always meet his demise. [ 49 ] Some time following this event, Fantomex resurfaced active, continuing his regular activities. [ 50 ] He and his partner Ned, a former A.I.M. scientist, were approached by Storm, Cypher, and M, who asked them to bring them to the World in order to cure Storm of the Machine Virus she had been infected. After entering the World they battled some manifestations. During the battle Fantomex proceeded to go to the lab inside where he was reunited with Ultimaton and both killed all of the A.I.M. scientists salute. The X-Men and Ned shortly arrived and put Storm inside a machine to extract the virus from her. After Storm had finished and proceeded to destroy the rest of the manifestations, she left with the stay of X-Men while Fantomex and Ned decided to remain behind in the World. [ 51 ]

Power Grid[69]

Fantomex is an artificially-evolved human, an engineer mutate with three brains for independent parallel process and ‘nano-active blood ‘. [ 20 ] Fantomex ‘s primary aflutter system is actually a detachable techno-organism called E.V.A. [ 1 ] After being killed, he was cloned in a way that his three brains each received a body, leading to the universe of Fantomex, Cluster, and Weapon XIII. Later, the clones were thought to have been reabsorbed back into his original body but this was not the event. He is besides a mutant. [ 15 ]

  • E.V.A.: An autonomous picotech entity manifesting his primary nervous system externally,[1] with retractable landing legs, hovering and propulsion capabilities, morphing doorways, passenger room, and a machine consciousness. He can see through E.V.A.’s point of view and can take control of her movement. However, this requires extreme concentrations on the part of Fantomex. Moreover, E.V.A can fly “herself” and can generate bio-electric charges to be used as weapons. Fantomex is both telepathically and symbiotically linked to E.V.A. As a result, whenever E.V.A. is traumatized or injured, Fantomex experiences the same pain.[52]
    • Pain Suppression: While separated, Fantomex feels no pain and seems able to ignore most injuries.[1]
    • Externalized Neuroweapons System: Fantomex recently showed he could eject E.V.A. as a ball of bio-electrostatic energy that can shock and immobilize enemy designates through the usage of her onboard picotech.[39]
  • Cyber Mind: Similarly in the way Sage possesses more of a program in place of her own gray matter, Fantomex too possesses a technological thought processor for a cerebellum due in part to his sentinel like design.[39] It is what and where his original three minds stem from and enables him to swap between the multitudinous personas of Cluster and Weapon XIII.[12]
    • Multiple Brains: Charlie has excess cognitive cerebral functioning in the form of two extra programs applied to his gestate design.[39] One is the charmer which gives Fantomx his incredible social ability and charisma, while the other is the deadly hunter killer of mutants he was designed to be who governs his abilities of deception.[12]
      • Misdirection: Ability to ‘misdirect’ another person, including the use of illusions. Together, their combined consciousnesses can create extremely convincing illusions. It seems even powerful telepaths cannot truly tell if he is lying or not. This includes misdirecting someone’s feelings.[53]
        • Healing Trance: He can place himself in a trance-like state to recover from injuries. In this state he has been known to forcibly expel bullets and recover faster while placed in water.[4]
    • Nano-Active Blood: The techno-active bodily fluids flushed throughout Fantomex’s system program his conscious mind to believe in absolutely nothing greater than himself.[24] Not love, not god, not teamwork; making him the dysfunctional epitome of strength for the sake of strength. This makes him resistant to the godly influence and most conceivable forms of mind control out there giving him the depth of will needed to push through with his mission.[40]
    • Body Supremacy: His techno brain gives Fantomex minor control over his physiological state of being. This was demonstrated by how he managed to reorder his damaged physiology by utilizing a digitized variant of the Volga Effect to essentially resurrect and modify himself after he was fatally shot in the head by Domino.[54]
      • Regenerative Healing Factor: Fantomex boasts a limited healing factor, courtesy of his self mastery.[55] But it pales in comparison to Logan’s as he could not regenerate lost or destroyed bodily organs such as his face or heart.[34]
    • Superhuman Intelligence: Even despite his flamboyant and egocentric wiles, Fantomex boasts an impressive analytic tactile cunning when it comes to various subjects. Items such as psychology, anatomy, mathematics, and espionage are all within his purview. Through E.V.A.s help he was the only one amongst a hosts of geniuses and weapons engineers who figured out how to rewrite the Volga process of super empowerment after suborning a digitized copy of his formula from the pixilated mind of Hope.[39] After dying and getting his entire physiology reset by the enhancement process, not only did he cut out the fatalistic neural biophysical combustion cycle which plagued all other subjects affected by it. But through his cybernetic processing power, figured out a means to rewrite the codex integrated into his nervous system in order to gain all new powers at any given moment on the fly.[56]
  • Secondary Nervous System: Fantomex possesses a secondary, internal nervous system that he can activate to prevent negative feedback from E.V.A., but its functions are limited, allowing him to see only in black & white.[20]
  • Externalized Nervous System: Unlike typical humans designed with their neural network on the inside, Charlie’s CNS is exposed to the wider world which vastly increases his sensory range beyond the norm.[57]
    • Enhanced Senses: Cluster boasts vastly augmented sensory range compared to the finest human specimen, with these attributes he could even sense the presence of the regularly misbegotten ForgetMeNot.[58]
      • Unnoticeability Immunity[58]
  • Superhuman Agility
  • Enhanced Strength:
  • Inodorosity: His body doesn’t create any scent, making it difficult for even the likes of Wolverine to track him.[8]
A few hundred thousand volts? I’m not so easy to hurt, Mister Summers.

former PowersSelf-Power Bestowal/Volga Effect: After having pirated a copy of Hope Summer’s affliction who in turn had copied the fatal chemical augment from her stricken [59] Rewriting it to enabling him use of its empowering effects without self-destructing but also bestowing and developing whole new powers on the fly onto himself whenever he pleases.[60]

  • Techno-Organic Wings: Fabricated a pair of jet black aerial extremities resembling those of a former comrade after having re-purposed the Surrogate Phy/Psi. Nervous System as Doctor Nemesis calls it, beyond being able to use them as razor blades due to near monomolecular sharpness coupled with the discharging of razor flechettes.[54]
    • Flight:[42]
    • Enhanced Speed: Having been ported into the sun itself and making it back to earth within mere moments showcasing he has escape velocity to virtual light speed motion.[42]
  • Accelerating Regeneration: Fantomex’s healing factor had been greatly augmented under the Volga Effect, being able to revive himself from a bullet to the head in mere moments. Even getting sliced to ribbons by a frenzied marrow and then blown apart in a massive explosion wasn’t enough as his scattered bits culminated in order to rebuild himself once again.[60]
  • Energy Manipulation: First manifesting this capability shortly after getting shot behind his skull, he lashes out with countless energized tendrils similar to Volga when he first appears before X-Force. After time and practice he shows to control and discharge various other energies in the form of fire balls or plasma.[40]
    • Energy Blasts: can discharge potent quantities of red energy from various points of his body at will.[61]
    • Force Fields:[61]
    • Psychic Force Manipulation: can use the energies at his disposal under the Volga Effect to simulate telekinetic and telepathic feats, such as creating painful mind screams to disorientate or compress and crush a living being into nothing.[39]
  • Size Shifting:[61]
  • Enhanced Strength:[42]
  • Enhanced Durability:: His toughness had been augmented greatly after he upgraded tanking a bomb blast to the face and shrug it off with ease, withstanding assaults from multiple X-Force-espionage and other such super-powered assailants with ease, even being teleported into the surface of the Sun so much as only slightly singed him as did re-entry into Earth’s atmosphere.[62]

After having pirated a copy of Hope Summer ‘s affliction who in turn had copied the fatal chemical augment from her smitten father, Fantomex managed to fabricate a digitize version of what ails them both.Rewriting it to enabling him consumption of its empowering effects without self-destruct but besides lend and developing whole new powers on the fly onto himself whenever he pleases .

Fantomex is a skilled marksman and a formidable hand-to-hand combatant. He can besides read the consistency lyric of others with alone preciseness. This, coupled with his superhuman abilities, makes him a master of misdirection. Fantomex is besides able to place himself in a state of unaccented auto-hypnosis to perform critical tasks, such as self operating room. [ 4 ] He speaks english. He does uses much french words and a french stress, but in fact does n’t speak french. [ 11 ]

Psychological Imbalance : The programming of the faithlessness his nanites imbue can cause austere genial duress for Charlie. As the miss of religion in empathy can cause him to develop sociopathic tendencies due to being one-upped by people better than him in certain criteria. [ 11 ]

Fantomex ‘s ceramic armor has goggles ( presumably for night vision ) and provides some protection. There may be early devices in it. His mask incorporates telepathy-blocking ceramics. [ 4 ]

Handguns, sniper plunder. He carries special “ mutant-killing ” ceramic bullets. They were designed by Sir James Braddock ( the father of the Captain Britain ) and are unique because the bullets themselves appear to have distorted faces. It ‘s said those bullets were made from the very skin of another Weapon Plus agent which explains their odd awareness as said. [ 10 ]

  • Fantomex is based on French pulp fiction villain Fantômas and the Italian comic anti-hero Diabolik.[66]
    • Fantomex’s name is similar to that of Fantômas.
    • E.V.A is named after Diabolik’s lover and partner, Eva Kant.
    • Fantomex’s alias Jean-Phillipe appears to be a reference to Danger: Diabolik protagonist John Phillip Law
  • He intentionally uses a French accent because it annoys people.[1][18] His French accent is noticeably fake, and he claims this is because the virtual France he was raised in was imperfect.
  • He once kissed his X-Force colleague Dr. Nemesis in surprise on the lips in thanks for calling him “the best”, showing that he is open to same-sex intimacy.[67]
