Having selected a substitution military officer for his stead, the power ring choose Hal Jordan for his ability to overcome bang-up fear. The ring and its abilities were explained to him, and he inherited the cape of Green Lantern. [ 5 ] Acting as a astronomic patrol policeman, it was his speculate to serve and protect all life in Sector 2814. He would soon learn that there were another 3599 Green Lanterns across the universe, all monitored and empowered by mysterious creatures called the Guardians. [ 6 ] Hal received prepare from some of the best the Corps had to offer, including drill police sergeant Kilowog, and his mentor Sinestro. During his train, Hal learned that Sinestro had been subjugating his home planet, Korugar, through fear, using his band. After Hal reported these acts to the Guardians and fellow Corps members, he battled Sinestro and emerged victorious. Along with the rest of the Corps, he then testified against Sinestro at his trial. Expelled from the Corps and banished by the Guardians to the Antimatter Universe as punishment, Sinestro became a pledged foe to the Corps and gained a new Qward power ring, exacting the originate of his retaliation .

Green Lantern

As Green Lantern, Hal Jordan patrolled the galaxy and took on many missions in space. He continued to spend his time at home working at Ferris Aircraft, where he romantically pursued his boss, the lovely Carol Ferris. He would entrust his secrets to a young Eskimo chap who worked as his automobile mechanic, Tom Kalmaku, who discovered his secret identity. [ 7 ] green Lantern was one of the founding members of the Justice League of America, alongside the Flash, Aquaman, Martian Manhunter, Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. This group first banded together when they met to fight Appellaxians invading the planet and realized that they worked much stronger as a team than any of them could have as individuals. [ 8 ] Something of a ladies ‘ man, Hal had courted more than his share of beautiful women in his time. Of these women, the one to whom Hal may have been the near was Carol Ferris, who was his knob when he worked as a trial pilot for her ship’s company, Ferris Aircraft. unfortunately, their relationship was repeatedly strained by Carol ‘s position as Hal ‘s foreman and her dedication to running her company, arsenic well as Hal going through a menstruation of imbalance where he moved round constantly trying modern jobs that did not suit him. even worse, Carol was chosen by the Zamarons to be Star Sapphire, a knock-down super-villainess who repeatedly menaced the world, specifically men. [ 9 ]

Hard Traveling Heroes

Hal and Oliver Queen were estimable friends, often adventuring together, and besides getting along with his girlfriend, Dinah Lance. Hal was besides friends with the former Barry Allen, the second gear Flash, who along with Hal, were both founding members of the Justice League of America. Later hush, Hal retained a friendship with their respective sidekicks, Roy Harper and Wally West, the third Flash. While traveling with Green Arrow, Hal took a forget from intergalactic duty to focus on more ground troubles on Earth, like racism, poverty, deforestation, etc. They were joined by “ Old Timer ”, a defender who received the undertaking to accompany the Lantern and examine the ways of the mortals. [ 10 ] During these travels, Hal met who would become his surrogate subsequently on as green Lantern : John Stewart. At first base, Hal was n’t thrilled by the hot-headed attitude of John, who, being a person of color, continually showed a ambitious attitude towards the racist authorities. still, John earned Hal ‘s trust, becoming the utility Green Lantern when needed. [ 11 ]

Exile and Temporary Retirement

After spending excessively a lot time using his powers for “ trivial matters ” on his home planet and overlooking the rest of his sector, the Guardians exiled Hal Jordan from Earth for a complete year [ 12 ]. During his expatriate, he faced old and new treats, including Evil Star [ 13 ] and Myrwhydden [ 14 ], and teamed up with the Omega Men to defeat the Headmen [ 15 ]. Hal even faced off against other green Lanterns, like Dalor [ 16 ] and a group of rogue lanterns corrupted by yellow-proof ability rings, this last one being a psychological test carried out by the Guardians. [ 17 ] even after Hal returned to Earth, the Guardians kept asking Jordan to put the Corps over his private life, abandoning his friends when they needed him most. [ 18 ] Fed up with their apathy, Hal Jordan decided to retire from the Corps, and John Stewart became the official refilling for the Green Lantern of that sector. [ 19 ] Upon retiring, Hal reunited with his beloved Carol, and they enjoyed some time together. however, their lives changed again when the cryptic Predator entity merged with Carol, giving way to an eviler-than-ever Star Sapphire [ 20 ]. Having everything he cared about stripped from his life, Hal entered a hard depression. During the Crisis on Infinite Earths, a defender allowed Hal to join the newly appointed Guy Gardner ‘s team to destroy Qward ‘s Moon, giving him a irregular call. Seeing that Guy did n’t care about killing his enemies, Hal rebelled against him, and Guy left him to die in space, stripping him of his call. When the Green Lantern Corps joined the conflict, his comrades rescued Hal. unfortunately, Tomar-Re perished during the conflict and passed his closed chain to John Stewart. In turn, John returned his ring to its rightful owner : Hal Jordan. [ 21 ]

k Lantern Corps of Earth

Following the Crisis, the Guardians saw it necessary to withdraw to another dimension along with their female counterparts, the Zamarons, to breed the new coevals of immortals. Hinting at Earth as the focal point of that approaching evolution, the Guardians assigned Hal and John to base their operations on their home satellite. They led a group of Green Lanterns who established a bastion in California [ 22 ]. During that time, Hal started a controversial relationship with Arisia, who, being a adolescent, used her ring to accelerate her body ‘s adulthood and therefore become a charwoman of Hal ‘s historic period [ 23 ]. They dated for a time, and Arisia stayed on Earth even after the Central Power Battery of Oa was destroyed, Hal remaining as one of the few active Green Lanterns in the universe, and the only one on Earth. [ 24 ]

The Road Back

Main article: Green Lantern: The Road Back Exhausted of spending so many years of his life as a superhero, Hal started to travel the country alone, seeking a place to settle down and have a stable job. [ 25 ] After trying different places, Hal Jordan ‘s attention shifted again toward Oa when the crazed Guardian Appa Ali Apsa started to take cities from diverse planets and hold them hostages on Oa. Some of these cities were places the “ Old Timer ” visited with Hal, like Evergreen City and Hope Springs. Back on Oa, Hal had to join forces with Guy Gardner and John Stewart, along with the assistant of the return Guardians of the Universe, to defeat Appa Ali Apsa. [ 26 ] With the Guardians back and the reconstruction of the Corps about to begin, Hal expected them to allow him to return to Earth. however, they assigned him to cruise through space and recruit new members for the new Green Lantern Corps. [ 27 ] He made an agreement with the Guardians that, once he reached the number of 12 members, he would be allowed to return to Earth and negotiate with Guy Gardner who would remain as k Lantern of Sector 2814. This “ negotiation ” was decided with a fight, and the loser would be kicked out of the Corps. Hal defeated Guy, and he returned to his costly homeplanet. [ 28 ] Being located on worldly concern again allowed Hal to rejoin the Justice League and be the leader of the European branch. [ 29 ]

destruction of Coast City

once again, the Guardians ordered Hal to be absent from earth when his home and friends needed him most. But this clock the consequences were catastrophic : at the lapp meter he was taking care of a site on Maltus [ 30 ] and then in the Mosaic World [ 31 ], Coast City was invaded and destroyed by Mongul and Cyborg Superman, who built Engine City in its topographic point in an attempt to create a new Warworld. [ 32 ] Returning from space, Hal was horrified to find the new Engine City in refilling of his home plate, and he joined the resurrected Superman to fight the villains. Hal confronted and defeated Mongul one-on-one in a struggle that left him with a break branch. [ 33 ] soon after the scatter settled, the Justice League reunited in Engine City and dismantled the atrocity built by the villains. With the remains, Superman built a steeple to commemorate the victims of Coast City ‘s bombard. [ 34 ]

Emerald Twilight

Main article: Green Lantern: Emerald Twilight
Afterward, with everything he cherished piles of cinder and ash, Hal tried to use his surround to recreate Coast City in its entirety. This was a massive construct that required all of his ring ‘s charge, and he began interacting with characters from his biography who had perished in the butcher. A projection of the Guardians was sent to him ferocious that he was using his powers for personal reasons and threatening him unless he immediately reported back to them for disciplinary action. Enraged that they would ignore the personal personnel casualty he had suffered in the name of the Corps and try to punish him for his humanity, Hal, driven harebrained by grief, decided to meet them head on and collide with the men who had destroyed his animation. [ 35 ] In this state of lunacy, he was captive on obtaining their huge powers so that he might recreate all he had lost. A team of the Green Lantern Corps ‘ greatest warriors were sent to oppose him and stop him before he could reach their homeworld. Hal Jordan single-handed went through Boodikka, General Kreon, Graf Toren, Hannu, Jack T. Chance, Ke’Haan, Laira and Tomar-Tu. He left all those he defeated floating in space and took their rings in his self-control, adding them to his solicitation. [ 36 ] Touching down on Oa, he killed Kilowog in combat. His greatest adversary Sinestro was released from imprisonment to act as the stopping point line of defense, and Hal snapped his neck. then, he entered the Central Power Battery and absorbed the energies inside … killing the Guardians and effectively destroying the integral Green Lantern Corps. He emerged in the fresh identity of Parallax. [ 37 ]

parallax

One of the greatest secrets kept by the Guardians was that their ill-famed yellow impurity was, in fact, an ancient giant named Parallax who they had imprisoned in their central Power Battery. Parallax was the physical embodiment of fear on the aroused electromagnetic spectrum, the opposite of the green self-control. Hal became susceptible to fear after the end of Coast City, and the monster gained root in his consciousness through his ring, ultimately possessing Hal when he absorbed the energy of the Central Power Battery, where Parallax was imprisoned. Through influencing his actions, it would finally possess him and turn him into one of the greatest villains the population had always seen .

Zero Hour

As Parallax, Hal fought many of his former allies and Kyle Rayner, the newest green Lantern of Earth while attempting to restore Coast City. He conspired with Extant to restart the universe and attempted to sway others to his lawsuit by offering them wealth and power in this born-again population, the determination of which was to ‘set things right. ‘ Hal was ultimately defeated by heroes of Earth .

The Final Night

Hal seemed to gain clarity, healing the paralyze John Stewart and resurrecting Oliver Queen, who had died in an explosion. He extinguished his powers and sacrificed himself to destroy the Sun Eater and re-ignite Earth ‘s sun .

apparition

erstwhile later, the Spectre was without a host and demons sought to use it to their advantage. With the assistant of the Sentinels of Magic, Hal became the newly host for the Spectre. Hal attempted to bend the Spectre ‘s mission from vengeance to redemption, using his powers to remove the Star Sapphire persona from Carol. however, the Spectre was the stronger of the two minds, and Hal had little success. But the Spectre had alternate motives for attaching to Hal Jordan. He explained to Hal that the parasitic fear demon known as Parallax had taken him over while it was trapped by the Guardians in the Central Battery, having been wake up and directed to Hal by Sinestro. Though Parallax was able to suppress Hal and take over the Spectre, Hal was able to fight off Parallax and separate both Parallax and the Spectre from his soul. Ganthet sent a beacon of easy to guide Hal ‘s soul back to his body, and Hal Jordan was reborn as the Green Lantern. together, with Kyle Rayner, John Stewart, Guy Gardner, and Kilowog, they defeat Sinestro ( foiling his ultimate goal of eliminating the Corps ), re-imprison Parallax in the Central Power Battery, and the Green Lantern Corps is reborn .

return to the Corps

Seeking to atone for his actions while under Parallax ‘s influence, he has become the green Lantern of Sector 2814 once again. He besides rejoined the Justice League, despite Batman ‘s seeming distrust of him. Hal besides got a new test navigate job at Coast City, which he had subconsciously rebuilt while Parallax was reemerging. Hal belated helped rescue respective missing green Lanterns from Hank Henshaw and the Manhuters on Biot, including some he had battled during his Parallax induced rampage toward Oa, vitamin a well as his former fan Arisia. During the Sinestro Corps War, Coast City was targeted for end by the Sinestro Corps, and Hal urged the city to evacuate. alternatively, people all over the city put out green lights in defend of Hal and the corps. Hal and Kyle Rayner were able to defeat Sinestro in hand-to-hand battle and place him under arrest, ending the war.

Losing all self-denial, Hal ‘s dormant anger unleashes as he attempts to murder Sinestro, which attracts a red baron ring, inducting him into the Red Lantern Corps. Under the charm of the red ring, Hal attacks both the Sinestro Corps and Blue Lanterns. Unlike the early Red Lanterns, Hal is indeed able to create constructs with the loss ring. When Hal again attempts to murder Sinestro, Walker forces his bluing hoop on Hal in a desperate try to free the green Lantern from the red rings ‘ influence. successfully breaking the bolshevik call ‘s defend, Walker returns Hal to normal. Main article: Green Lantern: Agent Orange
Hal returns to Odym with Saint Walker and Warth to try and remove the blue ring. He meets up with Ganthet and Sayd to tell them he will not abandon the green Lanterns to join the Blue Lanterns. Ganthet tells him this was never his intent to make him a Blue Lantern, but to become the drawing card of the Blue Lantern Corps as Green Lantern, reasoning that Hal ‘s self-control would be hard enough to power the unharmed Blue Lantern Corps. Less than thrilled of being thought of as a battery. Hal asked how to remove the aristocratic band. Ganthet said the entirely direction to remove it is for Hal use up the ring ‘s charge, which he can merely do if has a spark of hope. Hal is then called binding to Oa by the Guardians so that they can remove the blasphemous band themselves. The Guardians are unable to remove the blue resound but continue to blast Hal with green department of energy in an attempt to destroy it. John stops them from continuing to blast Hal since it was having no apparent effect. Salakk informs the Guardians that Stel had an meet with an Orange Lantern. A hologram of Larfleeze appears from Stel ‘s body. Larfleeze gives demands to the Guardians, however Scar destroys the hologram. Hal has a conversation with Larfleeze, where he learns that the Orange Lanterns are good constructs of the beings Larfleeze killed. After a abbreviated battle, Hal agrees to give Larfleeze his amobarbital sodium ring, but only if Larfleeze tells him how he met the Guardians. Using the blasphemous ring ‘s recharging ability to his advantage, Hal creates an united states army of Green Lantern constructs to battle the Orange Lanterns. Realizing that Larfleeze ‘s ring must be constantly recharged by his orange world power battery to create his Orange Lanterns, Hal tries to steal the battery. While holding the barrage, Hal falls under its influence ; however, Larfleeze takes his battery back and uses it to create a giant reconstruct of himself. ineffective to make a incision in his construct, Hal is frustrated that he is ineffective to make his resound work correctly. He knows that they ‘ll beat Agent Orange, but he just does n’t see how. suddenly, the Blue ring registers sincerity in Hal ‘s impression that they will defeat Larfleeze, and unleashes a massive blast of blue unaccented, which destroys the Larfleeze construct. The ring then leaves his finger and initiates a sector scan for Sector 2828. The Guardians then make a modern treaty with Larfleeze but do not tell the Green Lanterns .

Hal believes that after Barry died, villains became more deadly, and the Justice League was no longer unassailable. After discussing the deaths of Aquaman, Martian Manhunter, and Batman, the pair leave. Hal, along with John, Guy, and Kyle, attends a parade in Coast City on the anniversary of Superman ‘s death, which has become a home vacation for fallen heroes. Hal thinks about the deaths that have affected the four earth Green Lanterns such as his don, Martin Jordan ; Abin Sur ; Katma Tui ; John ‘s wife ; Alex DeWitt and Jade, both former girlfriends of Kyle. He mentions that Ice ‘s revert from the dead makes Guy the entirely one of the four with a happy ending. After the parade, Hal meets up with Barry at the Hall of Justice, where the two look over the JLA morgue, which contains largely supervillain remains. Hal explains that supervillain remains are put in a vault since Dick Grayson uncovered a corpse-harvesting ring. The conversation leads Barry to question how many heroes died since he was gone, which Hal shows him through his ring. The pair is then contacted by Alfred, who tells them that Bruce ‘s grave was dug up and his skull is missing. Hal and Barry go to Gotham to investigate, when the previously deceased J’onn J’onzz appears ahead them as a Black Lantern, telling them that they should both be dead. After fighting John, he retreats and Jordan and Barry continue investigating. He finds himself facing many of his die allies, enemies, and people he failed to save reanimated as undead Black Lanterns under the control of the Green Lantern Corps ‘ ancient enemy Nekron. Hal finds himself not merely teaming up with Barry, who is besides resurrected from his death, but besides must work with his enemies Sinestro, Atrocitus, Larfleeze, and his former love Carol Ferris ( who is nowadays a Star Sapphire once more ). He besides allies with Saint Walker from the Blue Lantern Corps, ndigo Tribe member Indigo-1, and Guardians Ganthet and Sayd, in order to save the universe. Along the manner, Hal and Barry struggle their personal demons as they face the consequences of being resurrected. Nekron ‘s black rings then seek to claim them as Black Lanterns. After Hal and Barry escape from the black rings ‘ pastime, Ganthet duplicates the rings of each respective might of the aroused spectrum in hope of aid from seven modern Lanterns who are deputized for impermanent membership in each Lantern Corps individually. Jordan is shocked to find the raw Lanterns are in the forms of heroes and villains alike. While defending Coast City, the Lanterns run into a Black Lantern Spectre and are distressed to defeat him, threatening Hal into about becoming a Black Lantern himself. Remembering from the menstruation in which he was possessed by the Spectre that Parallax is the one thing that the Spirit of Retribution fears most, Hal allows himself to be possessed by the concern entity once more in order to stop him. [ 38 ] After finding out that Nekron was after the entity of White Light, he discovers that the entity originated on Earth, not Oa as the Guardians said. Hal realizes that the entity needs a host, alike to Parallax and Ion. As Hal attempts to leave Parallax, Sinestro tells him it ‘s his fortune to be the master of ceremonies and not Hal. After Nekron separates Sinestro from the Entity, Hal bonds with and uses its might to transform the resurrect heroes into White Lanterns dubbing them the “ White Lantern Corps ” they defeat Nekron, by reviving Black Hand, Nekron ‘s link to the surviving plane. The Entity then revives the Anti-Monitor in order to free him from Nekron ‘s Black Power Battery. Nekron sends The Anti-Monitor back to Qward. Nekron is destroyed by whiten office rings. The Entity resurrects many fallen heroes and villains before it leaves. Later, Hal and Barry discuss the events of Blackest Night and where the entity could have gone .
Hal and Carol Ferris are late seen flying in jets. Sinestro then interrupts, causing Hal ‘s airplane to explode. Hal and Carol transform into their lantern costumes and Sinestro tells Hal that he ‘s found a White Lantern in a volcanic crater on Earth. Hal infers that Sinestro could n’t lift the Lantern, to which Sinestro says it wants Hal. They arrive at the crater and Hal and Carol try lifting the Lantern. They both fail, as Sinestro had, and liken the fall Lantern to King Arthur and the Sword in the Stone. Carol tries once more, but then the Green and Yellow Lanterns try with her. This causes The White Lantern to speak, saying “ HELP ME LIVE. ” This seems to send a jolt of pain and office through all those resurrected on Blackest Night and the three Lantern Corps members around the Lantern. Hal then falls to the ground and when he rises, he sees revolting visions of undead forms of the resurrected. The Lantern tells Hal, Carol and Sinestro to find the Entity before Krona does. Hal is summoned adjacent to Atrocitus, but they are attacked by Lobo, who is attempting to collect a bounty on the head of Atrocitus. Together Hal and the New Guardians, “ daunt ” him off, and Atrocitus joins them in their search for the entities. After this, Hal seeks out Larfleeze, but they are attacked by Hector Hammond, who had swallowed Larfleeze ‘s Lantern and transformed into Ophidian, the orange entity of avarice. Hector says he ‘ll go after Carol, and Hal and Larfleeze go to Las Vegas and meet Carol fighting Predator, the crimson entity of love. Carol says the Predator is corrupted by the host and kisses his host, Abraham Pointe, to free him from the entity ( Hal watches the kiss with jealousy ).
Hal, Carol, Larfleeze, Abraham and the Predator are transported to Zamaron by the Zamarons. Carol tries to convince them, that Predator is not dangerous, and he does n’t have to be imprisoned in the Star Sapphire Central Power Battery. Queen Aga’po agrees with her, sacrificing herself to the Central Battery, and nominates Carol the new Star Sapphire Queen. Carol decides to stay on Zamaron. Hal and Larfleeze return to Earth because Saint Walker says that Adara, the aristocratic entity of hope, had found a host. They go to Montana. Later, Flash shows up and tells Hal that the Justice League wants to speak to Hal. Hal and Flash are interrupted by the Indigo Tribe. Adara senses no hope in the Indigo Tribe. Saint Walker speculates that it is because their rings control their emotions. Krona shows up with Parallax and possesses Flash. Hal and Parallax start to fight, and Hal taunts Parallax to possess his body again. Krona arrives and prevents Parallax from possessing Hal, saying that Hal would resist his influence. Krona starts to collect the Entity. Hal, the New Guardians, and the Indigo Tribe fight Krona, who proves to be besides knock-down for them. Hal wakes up, surrounded by Batman, Superman and Flash. Hal asks what happened. Batman says, “ You lost ”. Superman asks when the last time was that Hal took off the ring. Hal is approached by the New Guardians, who tell him that Krona has disappeared into the Lost Sector, but that Larfleeze ‘s ring is able to track Hector Hammond. As Hal prepares to join the New Guardians in their search, Batman, Superman and Flash propose to help, but Hal declines. The New Guardians go to Ryut looking for Krona but find the Book of the Black, Sinestro rolled a page and the book started to show the truth of Massacre of Sector 666 and Krona .
The Book of the Black starts to absorb the New Guardians, and Lyssa Drak shows up and makes it even harder for them to get free. Sinestro helps Hal gets free but then the book disappears, leaving only the rings of the New Guardians behind. then Salakk, with a police squad of Green Lanterns, appears and they try to arrest Hal. Krona then infects the Central Power Battery of Oa, using Parallax to make the Green Lanterns lose control. Hal flees and asks for stand-in by any early Lanterns who are not infected. [ 39 ] Guy Gardner gets in communication, and they meet at the “ green House ”. They both talk about their recent alliances, however, they both lose control and start a contend, draining their power rings. Hal and Guy regain their self-denial, but immediately they have no idea how to save the Green Lantern Corps. [ 40 ] Hal and Guy leave the Green House and use a starship, the Interceptor, to go to Oa. They are able to reach Oa, but a group of brainwashed Green Lanterns attacks them. Hal and Guy scat and meet with John and Kyle, who have besides removed their rings to prevent Parallax from controlling them. They all agree that removing Parallax from the Central Power Battery is the only way to save the Corps. They besides decide to use different rings, Hal taking the Sinestro Corps ring, Kyle taking the Blue Lantern ring, Guy taking the Red Lantern gang and John taking the Indigo Tribe band. With their new rings, they find Ganthet, but they are attacked by Mogo. The Lanterns are able to escape underground and find the Foundry, the position where all rings and batteries are forged. They find Shedd, a servant of the Corps, who gives Guy the Power Gauntlet primitively made by Krona. Kyle and John separate from Hal and Guy in ordering to save Mogo. Hal and Guy go to the Central Power Battery, but they are attacked by the emotional entities, who are using the Guardians as hosts. After Hal, Guy, and Ganthet dislodge themselves, the three reunite with Kyle Rayner and John Stewart, who has equitable destroyed Mogo. After that, Hal takes an excess call, the orange one, and Guy takes the violet one to use the full might of the aroused spectrum to crack open the Battery and free Parallax. Their job done, the Lanterns regain their original park rings, in cooking for the concluding confrontation with Krona .
While the Green Lanterns fight Krona and the entity-possessed Guardians, Hal takes Kyle to the Book of the Black and makes him draw a movie of Carol, Sinestro, Atrocitus, Larfleeze, and Saint Walker and Indigo-1 ( whose ring states her real name to be Iroque ). This frees them from the Book, but their rings reject them and choose Krona as their wielders. Empowered by their rings, Krona attacks Hal. however, Sinestro attacks Krona. Before Krona can attack Sinestro, a green Lantern hoop chooses Sinestro as its wielder. Hal and Sinestro wangle to overpower Krona, and Hal last kills him, releasing the entities from the Guardians. With Krona dead, the rings from the other corps revert to their former wielders. The Guardians, however, expel them from Oa. besides, ascribable to his holocene ‘rebellion ‘ against them by working with the other Ring-bearers, coupled with his late murder of a Guardian, they now believe Hal to be the most dangerous greens Lantern. Despite Ganthet ‘s try to defend him, Hal is discharged from the Corps, and the Guardians take his hoop and send him back to Earth. Hal appears on a desert highway, saying it should n’t end like this. [ 41 ]

Relationships with Allies

  • Fellow Green Lanterns: from his early years, Hal admired Tomar-Re as one of the best Green Lanterns in history. As years passed, Hal became a respected figure and a close friend with many Lanterns from different sectors, like Katma Tui. Hal proved to be a very apt leader in times of need.
  • Barry Allen: it is stated that Hal Jordan was Barry’s best friend, having a lot in common, both in and out of costume. Together, they teamed up many times to face different threats, like Major Disaster, Reverse Flash, Sinestro, and others.
    • Wally West: the tradition of teaming up with the Flash carried out when Wally took the mantle. Although having a big difference in ages, Hal and Wally worked well together, understanding each other even without words. They teamed up for the first time to face Hector Hammond and Gorilla Grodd, and even though Hal thought Wally was immature at best, he recognized his skill and aptitude.
  • Oliver Queen: being complete opposites, Oliver and Hal complimented each other during a time on Hal’s life where he needed to experience first-hand the street-level struggles he usually overlooked when he was fighting super-villains or protecting other planets.

Romances

  • Carol Ferris: being friends from childhood, Hal always had a lot of affection toward Carol Ferris, and even though she tried to remain professional being his boss at Ferris Aircraft, Carol also felt that same way about Hal. When they allow themselves to have a romantic relationship, they are very loving and caring couple, always there for each other. Unfortunately, they are constantly on and off, having Hal’s status as Green Lantern and Carol’s as Star Sapphire interfering between them and putting them on opposite sides.
  • Eve Doremus: after his first break-up with Carol, Hal moved to Evergreen City and took a job as an insurance agent. He dated Eve during that time, but Hal’s unwillingness to settle down led him to abandon Evergreen City and leave Eve behind.
  • Olivia Reynolds: when Hal worked as a toy salesman, he met his rival, Olivia. Even though he tried to keep a professional relationship between them, Hal felt attracted to Olivia, but they never got close enough to start a relationship. Olivia turned out to have a hidden power inside her mind, and Green Lantern saved her from the Qwardians who attempted to kidnap her. Years passed until they met again, and Olivia proposed Green Lantern to sell licensed toys about him and the Corps.
  • Dorine Clay/Onu Murtu: coming from the planet Garon, Onu came to Earth escaping from the dictators of her home planet. On Earth, she adopted the fake identity of Dorine Clay. Hal felt attracted to her and tried to gain her love, but she acted indifferently. When she returned to Garon, she left a note saying that she felt affection toward him. Years later, during his exile off Earth, Hal helped Dorine defeat the Headmen. Dorine was still in love with him, and she stayed by Hal’s side during his quest. But Hal was determined to return to Earth (especially to be with Carol), so he couldn’t give Dorine the attention she wanted.
  • Iona Vane: a resident of the 58th Century, Iona Vane posed as Green Lantern’s fake love interest, but she in time fell in love with the fake persona of “Pol Manning.” At first, Hal didn’t have any memories about Iona or the 58th Century, but when he learned about it, he erased Iona’s memories with him so he could return to the past to be with Carol.
  • Kari Limbo: Originally Guy Gardner’s girlfriend, Kari found comfort in Hal after Guy’s apparent death. Their relationship flourished to the point of almost getting married, but their wedding was canceled when they found out Guy was still alive. Having conflicting emotions, Hal and Kari parted ways, and Kari remained alongside Guy’s side during his coma.
  • Arisia: even though she was fairly new in the Green Lantern Corps, Arisia felt great admiration toward Hal, which turned into romantic feelings thanks to Hal’s affectionate attitude toward her, calling her “honey” frequently. Being rejected due to her minor age, Arisia used her ring unconsciously to accelerate her aging process, turning her into a grown-up woman. Hal finally felt attracted to her, and they started dating.
  • Rose Lewis: a farmer woman from Hope Springs. Hal attempted settle down with her and have a life beyond his GL career. However, Rose was against superheroes, and Hal’s reveal as Green Lantern forced him to leave her behind. When Hope Springs was abducted and taken to Oa, Rose became a confidant and helper to John Stewart, which cause a small confrontation between both Green Lanterns. In the end, Hal yielded and let Rose stay at John’s side.

Powers

When he was possessed by Parallax he had entity-level powers. During Zero Hour he absorbed chronal energies released by Antimonitor, and used it to try recreate the population. In his brief tenure as the Spectre, Hal Jordan had all his powers, but these were lesser ( for example, Jordan had problems to keep the spirits of criminals killed by the previous Spectre in the Afterworlds ) .

No evil shall escape my sight.
Let those who worship evil’s might,
Beware my power…Green Lantern’s light!”

  • Although this character was originally introduced during DC’s Earth-One era of publication, their existence following the events of the 1985–86 limited series Crisis on Infinite Earths remains intact. However, some elements of the character’s Pre-Crisis history may have been altered or removed for Post-Crisis New Earth continuity, and should be considered apocryphal.
  • Pre-Crisis, Hal was at one time an insurance investigator in Evergreen City.[2] This detail was retained into Post-Crisis continuity.[60] Same with his job as a toy salesman.[3][61]
  • Hal’s original ring was destroyed by Lord Malvolio and he was forced to use Malvolio’s ring (which unlike Green Lantern rings of the time appeared to affect yellow objects — something that was impossible for normal Green Lantern rings.). Malvolio’s ring was the ring Hal was wearing when he became Parallax and in a reformed state was the ring that allowed Kyle to accidentally created Oblivion.[citation needed]
  • Hal’s old address prior to getting his GL Ring was 22 Sea View, Coast City, California.[citation needed]
  • Hal Jordan was developed after an initial concept by editor Julius Schwartz and loosely modeled after actor Paul Newman, who was then neighbor of Green Lantern artist Gil Kane.[62]
  • Peter David wrote Hal Jordan into a Marvel Comics issue. He is seen in a psychiatric hospital shortly after Zero Hour as a mental patient, with the events of that story taking place inside his mind.[63]
