Once, the Justice League was the most powerful team of superheroes in the universe. But tragedy has caused the League to go their separate ways, leaving the once-great team broken and disbanded. Now, on the eve of the universe’s greatest murder trial, the League must protect the killer and reconcile their past before they are eradicated by some of their greatest villains.

I usually love Chip Zdarsky, as he’s proven himself to be one of the more consistent writers nowadays with stuff like his runs on Daredevil,

I think my main gripe is this is just an okay JL story rather than the incredible one I thought Zdarsky would be able to tell. Maybe that’s my fault for having expectations that were too high, but I found this to be nothing more than good. It’s a seven-issue Elseworlds miniseries where everything kind of sucks and the Justice League members are a bit angsty and OOC at some points. Some of the Leaguers are dead, there’s a mysterious tragedy in the team’s past, and some of the members have beef now because of this aforementioned tragedy. Sounds like every single Elseworlds ever. And a pretty par for the course one at that. I think that’s why this didn’t work as well as I thought it would, because everything in here is shit you’ve seen in millions of other Elseworlds titles. There are undeniably cool, individual moments sprinkled throughout, but they never came together as a complete package for me sadly. It just doesn’t do anything unique or all that interesting with this team.

Even with all its flaws, this book thankfully isn’t a total dumpster fire and does have some redeeming qualities. Rife with a few solid characterizations, well-written character moments and interactions, and some awesome art, Last Ride thankfully has its moments of greatness even if it isn’t Zdarsky’s best. I also gotta give Chip a shoutout for using Wally West as the Flash in here, and writing him well at that. I really don’t like Barry Allen, so it’s nice when people write the real Flash into the JL. I didn’t love how he wrote all the Leaguers honestly, especially Superman & Wonder Woman, but his Wally was great. A decent Justice League Elseworlds that didn’t do too much for me personally besides having amazing art, some fun action, and a great Wally portrayal. Even though I have picked on it, this book is honestly probably a great place for new readers to start. I’d 100% recommend it for fans of the Justice League, Elseworlds, or Chip Zdarsky, as well as newcomers to comics, as you’d probably find some enjoyment out of this. Even if I didn’t adore it, it’s still better than anything that has come out of the mainline Justice League title in the last couple of years. And even if the story isn’t your thing, the art is pretty damn awesome. once, the Justice League was the most potent team of superheroes in the universe. But tragedy has caused the League to go their separate ways, leaving the once-great team break and disbanded. now, on the eve of the universe ‘s greatest mangle test, the League must protect the killer and reconcile their past before they are eradicated by some of their greatest villains.I normally love Chip Zdarsky, as he ’ mho prove himself to be one of the more consistent writers nowadays with material like his runs on Daredevil, Invaders, and Fantastic Four : 2 in 1, adenine well as solid indie books like Stillwater, Newburn, and The White Trees. His Elseworlds miniseries ’ have besides normally been commodity, as I loved both Spider-Man : Life Story and Spider-Man : The Spider ’ south Shadow, so I was expecting to love this. sadly, even though I normally love Elseworlds and Chip, this good didn ’ metric ton do all that much for me. But merely because I didn ’ triiodothyronine love this doesn ’ metric ton mean it ’ s all bad either.I think my main gripe is this is equitable an okay JL floor rather than the incredible one I thought Zdarsky would be able to tell.
