The New Warriors line-up was announced via YouTube dawdler yesterday, introducing us to new characters including Screentime, Trailblazer, B-Negative, and twins Snowflake and Safespace .
Yeah…Snowflake and Safespace.
Safespace is described as a “ stereotyped athlete, ” but with pinko haircloth and a pink costume. His might is creating effect fields, but it ’ s only able to be activated if he ’ south protecting another person .
His twin, Snowflake, is non-binary, and their more proactive power allows them to create crystallize snowflake-shaped shurikens .
Writer Daniel Kibblesmith explained the think march behind the new character names, saying that they ’ re about “ teens fighting against labels that have been put on them. ”
“ It ’ s the theme that these are terms that get thrown around on the internet that they don ’ triiodothyronine interpret as derogative to take those words and kind of break them as badges of honor. ”
While there was constantly going to be an hubbub from people who use the terms “ snow bunting ” and “ condom space ” in a negative manner, members of the LGBTQ community and allies aren ’ t completely sold on this attempt to reclaim the terms .
Is this for real ? … not sure if I ’ m excited for the theatrical performance, or offended by the character ’ mho name

I would respectfully ask these creators and @ Marvel to go binding to the drawing control panel on this and talk to more nonbinary creators about names and designs. As a penis of the LGBTQ community with many nonbinary friends I love dearly, this feels like ridicule.

A non-binary superhero named “ Snowflake ” sounds like something merely a baby boomer would come up with as a joke.
But Marvel is doing this unironically.
… I ‘m at a personnel casualty for words. This is absurd .

a much as we need non-binary representation in Marvel and the comic world in general, this just does n’t feel like a full manner to do that. How precisely is naming the inaugural non-binary hero snow bunting helping ? hypertext transfer protocol : //t.co/XppdHZzAyY

I very ca n’t tell if this is legit supposed to be a positivist portrait, or what …
It seems like they precisely named them after the top swerve words on Twitter for attention .

Marvel had the opportunity to break ground with the first non-binary superhero and they named them “ Snowflake. ”
