A New Site for Cinema Buffs
Admirers of Miyazaki Hayao immediately have a casual to see a considerable collection of original items related to his work in Los Angeles, in the first major picture of authentic Studio Ghibli items outside of Japan. Visitors to the museum itself will notice that the original build up ( now called the Saban Building after primary coil donors Cheryl and Haim Saban ) has been around for some clock, as it used to be a department store that opened in 1939 and remained in occupation until 1992. The LA County Museum of Art used the area as exhibition distance until it signed a 55-year rent agreement with the Museum for function of the structure and nearby land to extend it with a strike dome-shaped manor hall .
Miyazaki Kicks Off the Show

Visitors first go through a Tree Tunnel like that in My Neighbor Totoro to enter the Creating Characters gallery, where respective projectors show respective scenes from protagonists in some of the most celebrated Miyazaki films and explain the process of how those characters came to be. Complementing this and in other sections as well are about 300 authentic pieces, including storyboards, illustrations, reproductions, keystone animations, and even some miniatures used to create large set pieces in the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Tokyo. One of these miniatures is a reproduction of the Slag Ravine Mine used in Castle in the Sky .

Included in all of the authentic items is a wall of master movie publish posters from Japan, going from the 1979 Lupin III : The Castle of Caligostro to Earwig and the Witch, which just hit cinemas in Japan this August after its debut showing on japanese television receiver on December 30, 2020. There is footage of interviews with both Miyazaki himself and late cofounder Takahata Isao, who talk about the beginning of their career and how they founded Studio Ghibli.
Getting Museum Visitors Involved

tied with the stream COVID-19 protocols in place for visitors to any big indoor venues, the museum is getting care in hopes of welcoming many more visitors in the future. personally, I found my time in the museum to be one of the best possible ways to see authentic items from Miyazaki Hayao and Studio Ghibli without going to Japan. Having the parade among such outstanding items of cinema history, such as original costumes from Star Wars and The Wizard of Oz and the master “ Rosebud ” sled from Citizen Kane ) make it an even more worthwhile inflict, although the Miyazaki exhibit appeared to be quite a draw on its own for many of the tourists I saw there.
