This is decidedly one of the best of the new X-books to come out. This is decidedly one of the best of the new X-books to come out. In this restrict series, generator Simon Spurrier has Nightcrawler attack to come up with a new Krakoan religion, but he finds himself sterile, and regrets publicly announcing that he was going to attempt this apparently impossible undertaking. earthworm does end up with something pretty full by the end, if not a bit unlike from his master purpose.
What I enjoyed most about this book is that it was the first to actually delve into the consequences of a life without death. When mutants can equitable resurrect every time they die, how does life not become brassy and meaningless ? What happens to the resurrected when they are brought back ? Are they the like as they were earlier — does the soul persevere, or are they merely a copy of the original ? It ‘s refreshing to finally see these themes addressed, and done so extremely well. Nightcrawler was the perfect choice to center this book about. And the other major players in this fib — peculiarly Legion — are besides very smartly chosen.
I do n’t want to reveal besides much, but Spurrier has crafted a truly clever story with an older X-Men villain at its center that creates the perfect catalyst for a raw expectation in the mutants ‘ way of animation. This was in truth kind of bright. Another major character involved in this mutant disclosure is the acolyte Fabian Cortez, who Spurrier gives a surprise amount of depth and character development ( unlike in the S.W.O.R.D. book, in which he ‘s largely treated as a antic ). deoxyadenosine monophosphate long as these ideas are kept in the right hands going forward ( and it sounds like Spurrier is besides writing the approaching Legion of X book that is spinning out of this, so that ‘s very reassuring ), this could and should have a meaningful and interesting impact on the future Krakoan landscape.
Bob Quinn ‘s artwork was besides antic — particularly in some of the trippy stellar plane sequences. Oh, and I LOVE Spurrier ‘s aim on Doctor Nemesis. I very a lot want to see more of him in Spurrier ‘s hands. WELL worth a read, but unfortunately this will be dismissed by many as an unnecessary side narrative, when it actually proves to be an built-in part of the Krakoa narrative.
